University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic which encompasses the Furness Peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. Paediatric Services are provided on two main sites; at Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The post is based in the Paediatric Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and involves day to day care of patients on the Children’s Ward, Neonatal Level 2 Unit and attendance at clinics in the acute hospital setting.

You will be required to participate in the 1:7 resident second on call rota which includes night duties, twilight shifts and weekends.

The Paediatric Unit consists of 23 in-patient beds, including 2 High Dependency beds. There is also a busy Paediatric Assessment Unit incorporated as part of the Paediatric Unit. Patients under surgical consultants are jointly admitted under a Consultant Paediatrician.

The Trust’s Department of Paediatrics is seeking to recruit a consultant paediatrician to lead on safeguarding children and young people across the whole trust, as well as to represent the trust on the South Cumbria child death overview panel and case review group.

The new initiative for having one lead paediatrician will strengthen our safeguarding processes across the Trust and additionally will present opportunities for, for on-the-job development of special interests, if desired, to complement the existing local specialist services and tertiary outreach clinics.

This post is advertised without any on-call commitment though if the appointee wished to contribute to the out-of-hours service by carrying out an evening or weekend session that could be discussed.

LOCUM CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN ROYAL LANCASTER INFIRMARY

We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Acute General Paediatrician based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The post has arisen due to a colleague taking a period of maternity leave which is due to start in December 2017.

You will support our acute paediatric service, consisting of a ward ‘hot week’, neonatal week (Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit), and clinic weeks. Each post includes one evening per clinic week of resident duties, managing the acute paediatric and neonatal service at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. In addition, the consultants will participate in the 1 in 8 on call rota (non resident).

You will have a special area of interest to complement those already in the Department. We would be particularly keen to appoint a consultant with an interest in allergy.

We invite you to join an established team of 13 Radiologists in providing a comprehensive diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Service for the population of North Lancashire and South Cumbria. We all contribute to the general workload of the department, including CT, US, MRI and plain film reporting and participate in the on call rota (1:16). We outsource on call work from 8 pm (weekdays) and 5 pm (weekend and Bank holidays) to provide a more palatable and sustainable working pattern.

We have good administrative support, highly integrated voice recognition (Dragon 11 Medical with HSS CRIS) and have an active programme to refresh equipment. (Three new CT scanners, three new MR scanners and 16 new USS machines in the last four years). The PACS has been upgraded to a state of the art SECTRA system along with replacement of all the reporting monitors. A new SPECT CT system has been given approval at Furness General Hospital with plans for a similar replacement in nuclear medicine at the Lancaster site.

The clinical duties of the post include the day to day care of patients on the Children’s Unit, assessment unit and post-natal ward with some input to the Neo-natal Unit. All intermediate grade doctors take part in a full induction programme including attending local NLS and PLS courses.

The Children’s Ward at Royal Lancaster Infirmary consists of a 23 bedded in patient ward with 2 high dependency beds and also an adjacent 6 bedded acute assessment Unit. There is also an adjacent Day Care unit. NNU is a level 2 unit with 10 cots, including 2 Intensive Care Cots.

The post is suitable for an anaesthetist with at least two years of anaesthetic and intensive care experience.

Anaesthetic department in Lancaster has 26 Consultants, two Associate Specialists and 12 trainee anaesthetists. It is a very friendly and supportive department.
