Consultant Physician with an interest in Acute Geriatric Medicine & Sub Specialty interests either Stroke or Orthopaedics.

The Department of Elderly Medicine has established a frailty team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and seeks to recruit a Consultant Physician to join the team which currently consists of 2 consultants, 3 specialist nurses, junior medical staff, a discharge co-ordinator and rapid response assessors for Lancashire and Cumbria.

The team has responsibility for the comprehensive geriatric assessment of acute medical admissions who screen for frailty. This is usually between 15 and 20 patients per morning. The consultants and nursing staff conduct a daily ward round after which the full team holds an MDT meeting. The frailty consultants are also responsible for review of afternoon admissions until 6pm when an on call system resumes responsibility for review of all acute medical admissions.

A temporary frailty ward is attached to AMU and accommodates 15 patients. Further site developments are planned this year which will see a larger frailty unit in the main centenary building and in which we expect to care for frail patients from medical and orthopaedic/surgical specialties.

We are looking for a General Radiologist with a specialist interest – the sub speciality is flexible to fit in with the needs of the Trust and the applicant’s interests and we would rather appoint a strong applicant than having a particular requirement for any specific subspecialty.

We invite you to join an established team of 13 Radiologists in providing a comprehensive diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Service for the population of North Lancashire and South Cumbria. We all contribute to the general workload of the department, including CT, US, MRI and plain film reporting and participate in the on call rota (1:16). We outsource on call work from 8 pm (weekdays) and 5 pm (weekend and Bank holidays) to provide a more palatable and sustainable working pattern.

We have good administrative support, highly integrated voice recognition (Dragon 11 Medical with HSS CRIS) and have an active programme to refresh equipment. (Three new CT scanners, three new MR scanners and 16 new USS machines in the last four years). The PACS has been upgraded to a state of the art SECTRA system along with replacement of all the reporting monitors. A new SPECT CT system has been given approval at Furness General Hospital with plans for a similar replacement in nuclear medicine at the Lancaster site.

F3/Trust Intermediate Grade Doctor

We are looking for three enthusiastic Doctors to join our Trust who have successfully completed Year 2 Training or equivalent in our newly established F3/Trust Doctor roles. These posts will be based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, which is close to the beautiful Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and also the seaside, so this really is a great place to live and work!

Lancaster is a small city, with a lot of history, and has a popular University. There is so much to see and do, and you will have plenty of leisure activities to choose from. The area has good schools, and there are excellent road and rail links to the rest of the country.

We are looking for three full time doctors to work in our Surgery and Critical Care group rotating through the sub-specialties of General Surgery, Urology, and Trauma and Orthopaedics. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

These posts offer excellent opportunities for Doctors wishing to enhance their CVs and gain experience in Surgical specialties before commencing specialty training. Although these are not training posts, candidates will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor who will provide support, career guidance and mentoring. There will be access to an e-portfolio to document work-based assessments and reflective learning completed during this time.

In addition, the Trust is committed to the educational development of Surgical staff and candidates will have access to study leave, exposure to clinics and theatres, teaching and have the opportunities to undertake audits.
